Rake the Town

Community Service Project

October 29, 2016

Rake the Town, is a community wide event to help those that may have difficulty maintaining their lawn due to age, illness, or circumstance. It is beneficial to homeowners who want to remain independent but need a little extra help with chores/projects.

We were assigned four lawns but added on an additional lawn, due to a friend request. We were informed that her friend has leukemia and had just gotten out of the hospital. In our eyes this is just the type of person that is need of a helping hand, so we were more than happy to help out. It was great to come together and help someone that truly needed it. All the home owners were very appreciative, one home even left doughnuts and juice on the front steps. Overall, it was a great project and a nice way to give back to the community.

After the project was complete, we all got together for brunch at All Day Café for a little bonding and relaxation.

Feeding South Dakota

Community Service Project

January 27, 2017

Feeding South Dakota is a hunger relief organization that fight daily to eliminate hunger in South Dakota. Each week, this program assists in providing food assistance to approximately 21,000 individuals and families who otherwise might go hungry.

Through donations of money, food, and time Feeding South Dakota positively impacts thousands of people every year.

Today, almost our entire class volunteered for this wonderful organization. We sorted, boxed, and labeled a wide array of items. There was an entire warehouse full of items such as canned soup/fruit/vegetables/tuna, boxed cereal/cookies/crackers, bottles of ketchup/mustard/salad dressing and much, much more. It was uplifting to see the amount of stuff donated to those in need, and awesome to see our class work together for such a worthy cause.

Community Blood Bank

Blood Drive Community Service Project

July 21st, 2017

The Community Blood Bank is a non-profit cooperative service of Sanford Medical Center and Avera McKennan Hospital. They are the sole supplier of blood products to 34 hospitals and healthcare facilities in South Dakota, Minnesota, and Iowa. It is their mission to provide a safe, cost effective, and reliable blood supply to the communities within these states. Their primary objective is to build relationships, educate the youth and first-time donor, and inspire individuals to donate lifesaving blood to their community.

They rely on the generosity of local blood donors, which is why we chose this as our class project this summer. Not only did twenty-seven of us donate, but so did several spouses, DNP students, and professors. Overall, it was a successful donation and an honor to impact a life through my donation today.
